The A Swizzle Stick is the quasi-flagship among Überbartools' Swizzle Sticks; this special edition was designed in cooperation with star bartender Antonio Lai and his Hong Kong Bar Quinary. The measures are slightly bigger than those of the other Swizzle Sticks and the head piece shows Lai's stylized logo.
Swizzle Sticks have their origin in the West Indies of the 18th Century; originally made of the branches of the tropical plant Quararibea turbinata, they were used for mixing particular cocktails. Those so-called Swizzles also played a role in the 20th Century's blooming Tiki culture.
Überbartools now presents a contemporary successor: These Swizzle Sticks are made of cast alloy and stainless steel and are therefore more durable than their wooden forefathers.
While the Caribbean archetype was mixed on a larger scale, these Swizzle Sticks are suited for mixing in appropriately sturdy drink or mixing glasses. The stick is placed between the palms and set in motion by rubbing them together (in a similar fashion to a scout utilizing friction to start a fire in the wild).
So just put the ingredients for your Swizzle into a glass with enough crushed ice and use the A Swizzle Stick to mix; besides aerating and slightly diluting the drink, this will frost up most of the glass - just as impressive on the visual as on the technical side of things!
