The Bols family came to Amsterdam in 1575. They opened an distillery called "het Lootsje". 1652 Lucas Bols was born and managed the family company to an international brand with an expanded range of products. 1664 Lucas Bols launched the first genever. Until 1816 the company was runned by the family itself. But in this year the last male member died. The "Bols" company was saled and with it 250 original recipes, written by Bols. This separate Dutch copmpany offers a wide range of liqueurs and produces genever, gin and vodka.
