This elegant Junmai glass with a large goblet comes from the 'Extreme' series by the manufacturer Riedel. The stemmed glass was specifically designed for the enjoyment of Asian rice wine - which is sake. As the name suggests, it is particularly suitable for Japanese Junmai sake, a premium gourmet product made of rice with a high degree of polish.
The Junmai glass features an expansive goblet that tapers downwards and, delineated by a small groove, sits atop the long, graceful stem. From the widest point, where the side walls form a soft curve, the fine walls slightly tilt towards each other again as they rise to the top, eventually forming the nevertheless wide-open rim. At the bottom of the stem, it opens slightly and with a small edge merges into the flat, wide glass base. This gives it a total height of 20cm, with the uniquely shaped goblet holding 495ml.
