This tumbler from the Nachtmann Bossa Nova series is primarily designed to serve whisky and small cocktails. S.O.F. stands for Single Old Fashioned, which refers to the typical size of the cocktail classic and explains the volume of 250ml. To present the contents in the best possible way, the small glass is adorned with a largescale cut pattern on the sides. This shows a woven basket pattern of three-dimensional rectangles, which on the one hand ensures grip and on the other hand provides an atmospheric light play. The S.O.F. Tumbler is 8,4cm high and 8cm wide.
The origins of F. X. Nachtmann Bleikristallwerke GmbH go back to 1834. The glass cutter Michael Nachtmann initially produced bottles, jugs and drinking glasses together with 25 glassmakers in the glassworks Herzogau in Unterhütte near Waldmünchen. In the decades that followed, the company grew continuously and relocated the production site several times. Around the turn of the century, Nachtmann came to Neustadt an der Waldnaab, today's headquarters. Shortly after the production of lead crystal was introduced (1912), a new plant was built in Amberg in 1920. After the end of the Second World War and the reconstruction of the destroyed production facilities, the company started producing lead crystal again. The end of the 20th century was marked by takeovers and cooperations. In 1990 the well-known crystal glass factory Spiegelau was taken over and in the following year a production cooperation was entered into with Rosenthal AG under the technical and commercial management of Nachtmann. In 2004, the takeover of the company and its subsidiary Spiegelau by Riedel Glas created one of the largest quality glass manufacturers in Europe. Since then, Riedel Glass Works has combined the brands of the Austrian wine glass manufacturer Riedel, Nachtmann and Spiegelau.
